Dual-Engine Approach to Extend Coverage
The spectrum of social enterprise is wide, and can be generally classified by non-profit and for-profit, which indicate the profit-sharing model. In Hong Kong, non-profit social enterprises are normally run by NGOs which can tab with the government resources, while for-profit social enterprises are generally lack of financial and non-financial support currently.
Reference to some international practice of venture philanthropy and consider the existing environment in HK, SVhk decided to apply a dual-engine model by setting up both non-profit and for-profit arms, so as to cope with different needs of social enterprises in HK.
