Our Model

Social Ventures Hong Kong (SVhk) is a social purpose organization focused on providing venture philanthropic support to social enterprises and nurturing a culture of social innovation in Hong Kong, with the goal of addressing the city’s most pressing urban problems.

Founded in 2007, SVhk innovates social change by applying a dual-engine model: SVhk Capital and SVhk Foundation. SVhk Capital is the city’s very first venture philanthropy fund dedicated to providing financial and non-financial support to high-impact social ventures in Hong Kong; SVhk Foundation is a charitable organization promoting social innovation culture and incubating innovative social solutions.

Rise of Hybrid Models

Behind the Metropolis: Complex Social Problems in Hong Kong

Hong Kong ranked #1 in the world in the Gini coefficient. The government and welfare efforts have proven insufficient to remedy the problems in our society, such as ageing, poverty, and deviant youth.

Philanthropists Looking for Alternative Giving Models

Innovation and efficiency are increasingly emphasized in the developing trend of giving. Many new giving models are emerging to deliver blended values between the business and the social sectors.

Rise of Social Enterprise and Social Investment

The social capital market is growing. In the UK, there are over 50K social enterprises, that contributed £8.4 billion^ to the GDP (more than 1%). In HK, we are still at the infant stage, with most of the efforts in our 300+ SEs contributed by the NGO sector.
