Our Directors & Members

Mr. Keith Chan

Associate, SVhk

Keith is a true believer in sustainable social changes brought by social enterprises. He is currently in his third year at University of Hong Kong reading a dual-degree programme in business and law. In the summer of 2009, Keith worked as a summer student for Social Enterprise Europe, one of the pioneering social enterprise consultancy firms in United Kingdom. His duties then included the development of an innovative web platform aiding social enterprises in conducting social audits - a concept still foreign to Hong Kong. He wishes to bring his expertise in social auditing back to his home town in hopes to help local social enterprises refine their business processes.

Ms. Melody Chan

Member, SVhk

PCLL, CUHK

Melody is currently a reporter of a local newspaper. She received her LLB and PCLL from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. After staying in the law school for five years, she looked for changes of environment to provide with her energy and thrills to move on to another stage of life.

Human rights issues have always been on Melody's mind. She has been volunteering in the legal research of several high-profile human rights cases. However, she also developed a cling to economics. Before joining the press, she spent four years working as a legal research assistant, specialised in securities and futures law, and she has had so much fun studying corporate finance. Now she is enjoying her life in the LegCo press room, having the leisure to listen to the readings of bills which she finds interesting. For her, justice is about a fair distribution of resources. And SVhk is definitely her place to serve.

Ms. Beryl Chen

Director of Public Relations, SVhk

Beryl Chen graduated from The University of Hong Kong and got her MA from Beijing Normal University. Ex-reporter and editor, she currently works in marketing and public relations industry and has a small PR firm. She once yearned for leaving this city that she loves very much now.

Mr. Leong Cheung

EVP and Head of China Portfolio Group, Bain Capital

Mr. Leong Cheung received an MBA from the Harvard Business School and a BBA from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he later had taught strategy for five years as part-time lecturer. He joined Bain Capital Asia in 2008, and is currently the Executive Vice President of portfolio operation. Prior to that, he was Managing Director of Global Sourcing & Supply Chain at Esquel Group, the founder and CEO of an Internet start-up and a senior consultant at the Boston Consulting Group.

Mr. Cheung is a Court and Council member of the Hong Kong Lingnan University, a trustee of Esquel Y.L. Yang Education Foundation and an Advisory Committee member of the Hong Kong Quality Migrant Admission Scheme.

Ms. Rosanna Choi

Director of Governance, SVhk

Partner, CWCC CPA

Practising accountant, a partner of a medium-sized Certified Public Accountants firm. MBA (University of Sydney), Master of Science in Information System Management. Tirelessly searching for the peak of mountain, the trench of ocean, and the zenith of her achievement.

Rosanna is one of the core organizers of The 30S Group. She is also a committee member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) HK. She actively participates in community services as organized by The 30S Group and ACCA HK. She believes that SVhk can be a strong enabler for successful social ventures because of our understanding of both social and commercial sectors, our strong team of seasoned professionals, and our passion to change our society to be a better one.

Ms. Rachel Chong

Director of Membership, SVhk

Senior Acturial Manager, Manulife

BCom in Actuarial Science (Macquarie University), MCom in Actuarial Science and Finance (Macquarie University). Rachel plays different roles – an actuary on weekdays, a scuba diving instructor on weekends, a writer in leisure time. She loves challenges and always seizes every chance to learn and grow.

Ms. Jah Ying Chung

Senior Associate, SVhk

Jah Ying is a graduate of International Business and Global Management at the University of Hong Kong. She first contacted with social entrepreneurship through Francis’ course in Social Innovation at HKU. She subsequently entered SVhk’s Social Innovation Awards, producing a winning SE idea – Kitchen on Wheels. The prize for winning was an internship with SVhk, where she assisted the planning and implementation of several projects, facilitated pitching efforts to secure funding and support and finally, managed the launch of a 3-month pilot program for Playtao Foreverland (multidisciplinary education program for low-income students). She is also selected as an ECSEL Fellow (Empowering Chinese Social Enterprise Leaders) in 2010.

Ms. Maggie Fung

Maggie received her BA in Accountancy from the Hong Kong Polytechnic. She worked at STAR TV for 14 years and was an Associate Vice President responsible for the financial reporting of the Group. After she had spent a year with her two lovely daughters, she decided to fully devote herself to SVhk in 2010.

Mr. Henry Ho

Director of Environment, SVhk

Senior Manager, Communications and Public Affairs Office, HKU

Henry Ho is currently the Senior Manager of Communications and Public Affairs Office of The University of Hong Kong, with the portfolio of community relations and public engagement for campus development projects. Henry has diverse working experience in the field of environment. Before joining HKU, he worked at the Central Policy Unit of the HKSAR Government, an environmental NGO and an environmental consultancy.

Henry is a Core Member of the 30S Group. He enjoys writing articles on social, environmental and heritage issues. He graduated from Chinese University of Hong Kong and has a Master of Science at the London School of Economics, and an MBA at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He is currently a member of the Council of Sustainable Development’s Strategy Subcommittee, a member of Policy Discussion Group of the Transport and Housing Bureau, and a Board of Director of Conservancy Association Centre on Heritage.

Mr. Stephen Ho

Director of Sustainable Development, SVhk

Architect, Hong Kong Housing Authority

Stephen is a practicing architect in Hong Kong. After graduating from HKU (B. Arch) and HKU (M. Arch), he continued his education at CUHK (M.Sc. Sustainable & Environmental Design) and PolyU (M. Design). He is interested in the built environment and searching for ways to foster a ‘Sustainable Behavior’ through design. His current research area is on ‘Emerging User Demands for Sustainable Solution’, i.e. to foster a support action that aims at detecting, documenting and analyzing promising cases of bottom up new behavior, in order to influence mainstream consumption towards more sustainable patterns and life styles. The virtuous cycle of the “oriented social innovation” consists of i) society emits some (weak but promising) signals of innovation; ii) promising signals are detected; iii) promising signals are reinforced; iv) reinforced promising signals are re-emitted; and v) society evolution is re-oriented.

Mr. Ronald Kung

An accountant who loves words more than figures. Graduated from Wah Yan College, Kowloon and the Accounting Department of the City University, Ronald also has a MSc in Investment Management (Financial Engineering) from HKUST. Council member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, member of Mensa. He is the column writer of the Hong Kong Economic Journals, the Ming Pao and the Apple Daily, as well as the guest of the Metro Broadcast. He is the author of several books focusing on financial topics.

Ms. Rita Lam

Director, Reanimated Links Counltants & Services

Rita is the Director of Reanimated Links Consultants & Services, which she starts her first entrepreneurship since 2004. Currently she serves the government, educational institutes, NGO and enterprise of Hong Kong, Mainland China, Macau and Japan for research, training and strategic consultancy. She was also Guardianship Board member of the Hong Kong SAR and Chairperson of Association for the Rights of the Elderly. She is co-founder of Hong Kong Federation of Women‘s Centres, Cyber senior Network Development Association Ltd, Handinhand Network for Tsunami Suffering Families in Hong Kong and Joint Alliance of Universal Retirement Protection. Rita enjoys venturing throughout her previous extensive frontline and managerial experience in social work profession as well as volunteer work and now heads for Social Entrepreneurship with SVhk.

Ms. Gigi Lau

Landscape Designer

Gigi Lau is a fresh graduate landscape designer of a landscape design office. Before developing her career in landscape architecture, she was a policy researcher of think tanks and politicians. She also involved in academic research at the University of Hong Kong. Her research topics include public participation in urban planning, democratization of public space, and social aspects of sustainability in planning and design. Her commentaries have been published in local newspapers and magazines. She received her master degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Hong Kong. She thinks a successful design is based on an intensive research. Having participated in social science research for years, she has incorporated humanistic considerations in her design.

Ms. Louisa Lau

Social Worker

Louisa Lau, possesses a bachelor degree of Social Work and master degree of Drama Education, is a mission-driven social worker. She does not look like a social worker for she is so business oriented. However, deep in her heart, she cares so much about helping people to help themselves. She is the ex-Secretary General of a youth entrepreneurship program. Having read through over 600 business plans submitted by young people and worked closely with mentors from business sector to help over 70 youngsters to start and develop their business, she thinks she knows a little bit more about business. Having established several social enterprises for an NGO, she realizes that social workers may not be the best people to run a social enterprise. She left the NGO she has worked for 18 years recently so as to search for the most efficient and effective way to operate a sustainable social enterprise.

Mr. Andes Leung

Andes Leung, corer of 30s Group, actively participates in social enterprises in business and project consultancy. He is currently working for Sales and Business Development of a leading beverage corporation in Hong Kong and Macau with over 16 years of experience in Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, Training, Sales Management and Business Development.

Ms. Doris Leung

Executive Director, SVhk

CEO, Diamond Cab

Doris is the Executive Director of SVhk, and was a senior journalist with Cable TV News for many years. She left the company as Principal Reporter and joined SVhk since 2009, after being a dedicated volunteer for 2 years. She strongly believed that by participating and pioneering social entrepreneurship in Hong Kong, she could make a bigger impact to the society, than being a reporter. Doris is responsible for the membership development and event organization in SVhk, and also taking the lead in 2 flagship projects, namely Happy Grannies Elderly Sponsorship Program and Diamond Cab.

Ms. Christina Li

Director of Membership, SVhk

HR Manager, Jardine Airport Services

Christina is currently the Human Resources Manager (China) of a company in Jardine Matheson Group. She has a wide range of experience in human resources management from various industries. She graduated with BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature and Post-graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Hong Kong; Post-graduate Diploma in Training and Development from the University of Leicester and Executive Diploma in Management from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She has recently attained also a Master degree in Social Science of Counseling from the City University of Hong Kong and further pursuing some professional counseling approaches on a part-time basis.

In addition, she is very devoted in volunteer social services such in youth entrepreneur program, social entrepreneurships, psychotherapeutic support to international refugees and asylum seekers, etc. Her life goal is to achieve a Nobel Prize in Peace.

Mr. Laurence Li

Barrister-at-law

Laurence is a barrister. After graduating from Yale (BA) and Harvard (JD), he worked at a law firm in New York and later joined the Securities and Futures Commission in Hong Kong. Desperately in love with this city, Laurence’s favorite leisure activities are roaming around in Mong Kok, hiking in Sai Kung, and eating fish balls from street vendors. Hong Kong has even assimilated the cat that Laurence brought back from the US; she (the cat) is now crazy about roast pork and soy-source chicken from a famous restaurant in Central.

Mr. Timothy Ma

Director of Social Development, SVhk

Executive Director, Senior Citizen Home Safety Association

Timothy K. W. Ma, currently serves as the Executive Director of Senior Citizen Home Safety Association, the first 100% self-financing social service agency in Hong Kong. Timothy possesses more than 32 years solid experience in social welfare service, of which longer than 20 years at the managerial grade. In 2008, Timothy was awarded a scholarship and undertook an intensive course in Strategic Perspective on Non-Profit Management at the Harvard Business School. “I have a dream that every new and fresh social entrepreneur needs support and encouragement, inspiration and undoubtedly, working capital to make their dream come true. Joining in SVhk, I can walk along with them, work with and for them, and finally, sharing their excitement of dream come true.”

Mr. Leo Ng

Leo is freshly graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 2009. While most of his friend is fighting for a position in their professional field, he chooses to start his career in rapidly developing social enterprises. Associate in Social Ventures Hong Kong is his ever first full time job. He has a Bachelor degree of Information Engineering from the University of Hong Kong.

Ms. Yvonne Ng

Student Associate, SVhk

Yvonne is an undergraduate student at Boston University studying International Relations and has joined the SVhk family since June of 2009. As a student intern, she has been given an opportunity to challenge herself and assist their projects in forms of proposals, media and design. During this period of time, SVhk has opened her eyes towards the immediate social needs in Hong Kong and continues to inspire her to become an active role model in society.

Mr. Alfred Ngai

Alfred graduated from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and is a CFA charterholder.

Mr. Francis Ngai

Chief Executive Officer, SVhk

Francis is the founder and CEO of SVhk and also a core-organizer of the 30S Group. With experience in marketing, advertising and strategy profession, Francis was Assistant Vice President - Strategic Development of PCCW, responsible for the corporate development and strategy of ICT business in China, before fully dedicating himself in SVhk. He is now also a part-time member of the Central Policy Unit, HKSAR Government and part-time visiting lecturer in universities. He hopes to promote young professionals’ participation in social entrepreneurship and social innovation through the SVhk platform.

Mr. Joe Ngai

Director of Investment, SVhk

Joe is a partner of McKinsey & Company, the global management consulting firm, and leads its Asia asset management and insurance practice. He is an author of "Life Insurance in Asia", and is a regular contributor to industry forums. He is passionate about community services, sits on the Steering Committee of Youth Business Hong Kong, and is a core organizer of 30S Group, where he leads the survey project 30S Pulse. He is a graduate of Harvard College, Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School.

Mr. Alex So

Chief Financial Officer, RREEF Asia Pacific, Deutsche Bank

Alex So is currently the Chief Financial Officer, RREEF Asia Pacific, a global investment management business of Deutsche Bank's Asset Management division. Prior joining Deutsche Bank, Mr So held various senior finance positions with a number of global financial institutions in Hong Kong and Sydney.

Mr. So holds an M.B.A. degree and a Bachelor of Business degree from the University of Technology, Sydney in Australia. He is also a Member of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants, Australia.

Ms. Stephanie Tan

Stephanie is a Senior Vice President of Asia Financial Holdings. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Claremont McKenna College in Economics and Studio Art. After graduating, she worked at J.P. Morgan Private Bank in New York. Stephanie’s passion is food. She attended the French Culinary Institute in New York where received her diploma in culinary arts. Shortly after, she worked at Alain Ducasse Entreprise in communications and marketing. She hopes to promote food focused programs in sustainable social entrepreneurship and education.

Mr. Simon Wan

Simon is the General Manager of HM Diamond, an online diamond jewellery retail shop. Before joining HMD, he was a senior executive of a major fashion diamond jewellery retail chain in Hong Kong and Mainland. Graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Beijing Tsinghua University, Mr. Wan is also a Fellow of The Gemmological Association of Hong Kong and a diamond member of The Gemmological Association of Great Britain.

Mr. Bryan Wong

Bryan is an Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of a local business group with interests in entertainment, food and beverage, consumer products and property businesses. Previously he held various positions at Hong Kong Disneyland and the Boston Consulting Group. He has an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and MSSc and BBA from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Mr. Stephen Wong

Adjunct Lecturer, CUHK

Stephen Wong is currently an adjunct lecturer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong for the Masters Program of the Global Political Economy, and at the Hong Kong University SPACE for the Institute for China Business.

He is a member of the Budget and Allocation Committee at the Community Chest of Hong Kong, a Director of the Board of the Clean Air Network, and a member of the Sustainable Development Committee at the Sowers Action. He is an economic columnist for Hong Kong Economic Journal Monthly, i-Money Magazine, and Apple Daily. He is the chief economist for the Hong Kong Metro Finance Radio.

He was a Managing Director and member of the Fixed Income Management Committee (Asia Pacific) at RBS. He was Head of Structured Credit Derivatives and Alternatives (Asia Pacific). Previously, he was with UBS (London) as an Executive Director and Lehman Brothers (from 1997-2004 in London and New York) as a Director.

He graduated from Yale University (M.A.) and received a B.A. in Economics from the University of Chicago.

Terence Yuen, PhD

Research Consultant

Terence specializes in the study of civil society and social entrepreneurship. He is a seasoned research consultant who is passionate and familiar with the social entrepreneurship scene in Hong Kong, having conducted numerous research assignments for local NGOs and foundations, as well as tertiary institutions including the University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

More than 120 professional volunteers support the small executive team in achieving the 'mission impossible'. These active volunteers pass on a 'virus of passion', gradually building up a culture of engaged incubation, while growing alongside the social entrepreneurs. With a 3-tier volunteer management hierachy, namely Directors, Members and Affiliates, and a project-oriented teaming structure, SVhk provides very flexible, tailored support to Hong Kong's social enterprises.
